Accept Klarna payments, settled in crypto

Accept Klarna payments from shoppers in Sweden and get paid in crypto. They pay with Klarna on a partner's page, the order confirms on its own, and the money lands in your USD balance.

What is Klarna?

Klarna is a Swedish payments company, founded in Stockholm in 2005 and best known for buy now, pay later. It has grown into one of the most familiar ways to pay online in Europe and beyond, with options that range from paying straight away to splitting a purchase into parts or paying after the goods arrive. Shoppers keep track of their purchases and payments in the Klarna app.

Sweden is Klarna's home market. Swedish shoppers meet it in online stores of every size, from fashion and electronics to software and digital services, and they are used to confirming a payment in a few taps with an account they already have. For a merchant selling to Sweden, Klarna is one of the names buyers expect to see at checkout.

On CryptoPayr, Klarna is one of the options for buyers who don't hold crypto. It is live for buyers in Sweden only for now, on orders from 125 SEK. The buyer pays with Klarna on our partner's page, the partner turns that money into crypto and sends it to the order, and you receive a settled crypto payment credited to your USD balance. You accept Klarna payments without signing a merchant contract with Klarna.

How Klarna works on CryptoPayr

Switch on "Pay by card" in Settings → Payments. From then on, a buyer in Sweden whose order is worth 125 SEK or more sees a Klarna button on your checkout, next to the crypto options. They click it, a partner's page opens in a new tab, and they pay there with Klarna. The partner turns the payment into crypto and sends it to the order. Some partners ask a first-time buyer to verify their identity on that page; CryptoPayr never sees the documents.

When the crypto arrives, the order is confirmed automatically and your store is told it is paid. You are credited the order amount in your USD balance, minus your normal processing fee of 2%, 1.5% or 1% depending on monthly volume. The buyer pays a processing fee on top of the order, the greater of $2.99 or 9% + $1.50, so your price stays your price. Klarna sits next to crypto on the checkout rather than replacing it.

At checkout

How a buyer pays with Klarna

Choose Klarna at checkout

A shopper in Sweden with an order of 125 SEK or more sees the Klarna button next to the crypto options on your checkout page and clicks it.

Pay on the partner's page

A partner's page opens in a new tab and the buyer pays there with Klarna. A first-time buyer may be asked to verify their identity.

The money becomes crypto

The partner turns the payment into crypto and sends it straight to the order. The buyer needs no wallet, no exchange and no crypto knowledge.

The order is confirmed

Once the crypto arrives, the order is confirmed automatically. The buyer sees it as paid, and your store marks the order paid on its own.

For merchants

Why merchants offer Klarna

Accept Klarna payments from Sweden

Swedish shoppers can pay with a name they already know, even if they have never owned crypto. You add Klarna to your checkout by switching on one setting, with no merchant contract to sign with Klarna.

Credited to your USD balance

Every Klarna order is credited to your USD balance at the order amount, minus your normal processing fee. Price swings don't touch you, and you withdraw to your own wallet in the coin you choose.

The buyer pays the method fee

The fee for paying with Klarna through the partner, the greater of $2.99 or 9% + $1.50, is added on top of the order for the buyer. You don't have to raise your prices to cover it.

Orders confirm on their own

When the crypto reaches the order, CryptoPayr tells your store and the order is marked paid. Our WooCommerce, PrestaShop and WHMCS plugins, payment links and the API all work this way, with email and dashboard notifications.

A settled payment for you

What reaches your order is a settled crypto payment. If the buyer disputes what they paid, that is between them and the partner that sold them the crypto. Your account needs no KYC and has no monthly fees.

Klarna payments: FAQ

Can every buyer pay with Klarna on my checkout?

Not yet. Klarna is live for buyers in Sweden only for now, and the button appears when the order is worth 125 SEK or more. Buyers elsewhere still see your crypto options and the other payment methods available in their country, such as card options, or Revolut in the EU and EEA.

Can buyers pay later or in installments?

Our checkout doesn't offer pay-later or installment plans. The buyer pays with Klarna on our partner's page, and which Klarna options appear there is up to Klarna and the partner, not us. For you nothing changes: once the crypto reaches the order, it is confirmed and you are credited the order amount.

Do I need a Klarna merchant account?

No. You switch on "Pay by card" in Settings → Payments and the Klarna button appears for eligible buyers in Sweden. The partner takes the Klarna payment and sends crypto to your order, so there is nothing to apply for with Klarna and nothing extra to build into your store.

Who pays the fees?

The buyer pays a processing fee on top of the order: the greater of $2.99 or 9% + $1.50. You pay only your normal CryptoPayr processing fee, which is 2% and drops to 1.5% above $1,000 a month and 1% above $5,000 a month. There are no setup fees, monthly fees or monthly minimums.

How do I get the money out?

Klarna orders sit in your USD balance at the order amount, minus the processing fee. You can withdraw to your own wallet in the coin you choose, set automatic payouts daily, weekly, monthly or when the balance reaches a threshold, or pay people with bulk payouts and payout links.

What happens if a buyer disputes a Klarna payment?

The buyer's Klarna payment goes to the partner that sold them the crypto, so a dispute about it is between the buyer and that partner. What reaches your order is a settled crypto payment. If you want to refund a customer, you can do it from your dashboard: they get an email link and enter the address to receive it.

Will the buyer have to verify their identity?

Sometimes. Some partners ask a first-time buyer to verify their identity before the payment goes through. That happens on the partner's page, and CryptoPayr never sees the documents. On your side, nothing is needed: you can open and run a CryptoPayr merchant account with no KYC or KYB.
