Accept Visa and Mastercard payments, settled in crypto

Let buyers pay with the debit or credit card already in their wallet while you receive a settled crypto payment. Card payments start at $10, and you never apply for a card merchant account.

What is Visa and Mastercard?

Visa and Mastercard are the two card networks behind most of the debit, credit and prepaid cards people carry. Whatever bank a buyer uses, and whatever country they live in, the card they reach for when they shop online almost certainly carries one of those two logos. For many shoppers, typing in a card number is still the default way to pay. It works the same on a phone, a laptop or a tablet.

For a merchant, though, taking those cards the usual way means a card merchant account: an application, an underwriting review, a processing contract and a dispute process in which a buyer can reverse a payment long after the goods were delivered. Businesses selling digital goods, hosting, gaming or anything sold across borders often find that process slow, expensive or closed to them altogether.

When you accept Visa and Mastercard payments settled in crypto, the card network is still there for the buyer, but it is no longer your problem. The buyer pays a card partner, the partner turns the payment into crypto and sends it to your order, and you receive a settled payment. Buyers who hold no crypto at all can still check out with the card they already have. Your store keeps one checkout, and the payment that reaches you is final.

How Visa and Mastercard works on CryptoPayr

Switch on "Pay by card" in Settings → Payments and card buttons start appearing on your checkout, each one once the buyer's total payment, the order plus the card fee, reaches that partner's minimum. Stripe takes Visa and Mastercard from buyers in the US and EU for payments from $10. For larger payments in most countries, Transak appears from $30, with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer, and Simplex appears from $50.

The buyer clicks a button and the partner's page opens in a new tab. They pay by card there, and the partner turns the money into crypto and sends it to the order. CryptoPayr confirms the order automatically and your store marks it paid. You are credited the order amount in your USD balance, minus your normal processing fee. The buyer pays the card processing fee on top of the order: the greater of $2.99 or 9% + $1.50.

At checkout

How a buyer pays with Visa and Mastercard

Choose to pay by card

At checkout the buyer picks a card button instead of a coin: Stripe on smaller payments, Transak or Simplex when the basket is larger.

Enter Visa or Mastercard details on the partner page

A partner page opens in a new tab. The buyer types their card details there, not on your store and not on CryptoPayr.

Verify once, if asked

Some partners ask a first-time buyer to confirm their identity. That step happens on the partner page, and CryptoPayr never sees the documents.

Order marked paid

The partner turns the card payment into crypto and sends it to the order. CryptoPayr confirms it automatically and your store marks the order paid.

For merchants

Why merchants offer Visa and Mastercard

Card payments without a card merchant account

There is no acquirer to apply to and no processing contract to sign. One switch in Settings adds card checkout to every order, so you can take your first card sale on the same day you open the account.

Disputes stay with the partner

If a buyer disputes the charge with their bank, that is between them and the partner that sold them the crypto. You received a settled crypto payment, so a delivered order is not reversed months later.

A card route for small and large baskets

Stripe covers payments from $10 for buyers in the US and EU. Transak from $30 and Simplex from $50 take larger payments in most countries, so both a small download and a $200 basket can be paid by card.

Credited in dollars

You receive the order amount in your USD balance, minus only your usual processing fee of 2%, 1.5% or 1% depending on monthly volume. The card fee is paid by the buyer on top, not taken from your sale.

One checkout for card and crypto buyers

The same page offers 110+ coins to buyers who hold crypto and card buttons to those who do not. One integration, one dashboard and one balance cover both, whether the order comes from a plugin, a payment link or the API.

Visa and Mastercard payments: FAQ

What is the minimum payment for card checkout?

Stripe shows its card button for payments from $10, Transak from $30 and Simplex from $50. Each minimum counts the buyer's whole payment, the order plus the card fee. Below $10 there is no card option, but the buyer can still pay with any of the 110+ coins on the same checkout page.

Which buyers can pay with Visa or Mastercard?

Stripe takes cards from buyers in the US and the EU. Transak and Simplex work in most countries, so buyers elsewhere usually still have a card route on larger payments. Each partner decides on its own page which cards it accepts.

Who pays the card fee, and how much is it?

The buyer. A card processing fee is added on top of the order: the greater of $2.99 or 9% + $1.50. On a $50 order that comes to $6.00, so the buyer pays $56.00 and you are credited the $50 order amount, minus your normal processing fee.

Do I need a card merchant account to turn this on?

No. Go to Settings → Payments and switch on "Pay by card". That is the whole setup: there is no acquirer application, no card processing contract and nothing to install. The card buttons appear on your hosted checkout from then on, each one when a payment reaches its minimum.

How do I get paid for a card order?

The order amount is credited to your USD balance once the partner's crypto reaches the order and CryptoPayr confirms it, minus your usual processing fee. From your balance you withdraw to your own wallet in the coin you choose, by hand or with automatic payouts daily, weekly, monthly or when the balance reaches a threshold.

Can I refund a buyer who paid by card?

Yes, from your dashboard or the API, like any other payment. The customer gets an email with a link and enters the crypto address where they want the refund. If a buyer disputes the charge with their card issuer instead, that is between them and the partner that sold them the crypto.

Will buyers have to verify their identity?

Some partners ask a first-time buyer to verify their identity before they can buy crypto. That check happens on the partner's page, and CryptoPayr never sees the documents. Your checkout stays the same either way, and the buyer does not need a CryptoPayr account to pay.
